Phylogeography
Phylogeography is the study of how the geographic distribution of organisms is shaped by the history of populations and their interactions with the environment. It offers insight into the evolutionary history of a species, as well as its dispersal and adaptation to different habitats. By studying the genetic variation at both local and global levels, phylogeographers can learn about the timing and scale of past events such as speciation and extinction, as well as current and past migrations, population interactions, and other biological and environmental processes. This information can be used to better understand how species are adapted to their environment, and how they might respond to climate change and other anthropogenic disturbances. Phylogeography is an invaluable tool for conservation and sustainable management of species and ecosystems.
