Oligocene Epoch
The Oligocene Epoch, which occurred 33.9–23 million years ago, marked a global cooling event due to the closure of the Tethys Sea and the formation of the Alps. This period is important in terms of geologic history because it was when primates first diversified, leading to the evolution of the primate lineage. Additionally, the Oligocene saw the explosion of modern flora, including the first grasses, which paved the way for the evolution of large mammals such as antelopes and bovines. The Oligocene is also an important period in human history as it was when primates began to occupy certain regions, leading to the development of human society.
