Neogene Period
The Neogene Period was the final geologic period of the Cenozoic Era, lasting from approximately 2.6 million years ago to the present. During this time, the Earth’s climate and environment changed dramatically, leading to the evolution and diversification of many species. This period saw major changes in the distribution of landmasses and the expansion of grasslands and savannas, which encouraged the spread of large mammals. The Neogene is also known for its many geological events, including the uplifting of the Himalayas and the formation of the Indian Ocean. It is an important period in Earth's history, as it is the most recent in which species have had the opportunity to evolve and spread across the globe. This period is essential for the understanding of the origins of humanity, as well as the interconnections between living forms and their environment.
