Mesolithic Period
The Mesolithic period (8000-4000 BCE) of prehistory was a significant time as modern humans were transitioning from a hunter gatherer lifestyle to a more settled existence. This period is characterised by the introduction of agriculture and the development of sophisticated stone tools and weapons. Mesolithic people also invented the bow and arrow, the potter's wheel, and the use of domesticated animals. Along with technological advances, Mesolithic communities developed social practices such as organised burials, ancestor worship, and the beginnings of animism. This period has implications for modern day humans, as it shows our ancestors' ability to adapt to and exploit their environment. Through archaeological excavations, we can learn about their technology, customs, and beliefs. The Mesolithic period is an important part of human history and its study can provide unique insight into our distant past.
