Historical Archaeology
Historical archaeology is a multi-disciplinary field of research that combines archaeological data with written documents to provide a better understanding of past societies and cultures. Historical archaeology is particularly significant for understanding the material remains and lifeways of peoples who did not leave behind written records. By using artifacts and linking them with written evidence and other lines of archaeological evidence, historical archaeologists reconstruct the lives of past peoples. Historical archaeology is a powerful tool for researching and interpreting how societies and cultures changed over time, how they adapted to their environments, and how they interacted with other societies. It is used in a wide variety of contexts, including understanding landscapes, researching identity and diversity, exploring colonialism, and examining urban development.
