Evo-devo

Evo-devo is a branch of evolutionary biology that focuses on the development of organisms over time. It integrates genetics, genomics, development, and evolution to understand the origin and organization of organismal form. Evo-devo has helped explain major trends in the evolution of body plans and morphological diversity, as well as the evolution of novel organs and functions. Its discoveries offer insights into how genetic changes lead to the emergence of new traits, as well as how these traits interact to form complex ecological relationships. Evo-devo is also increasingly informing the development of new drug targets for treating disease, providing a framework for understanding evolution in the human genome and creating models for understanding human development.
