Ecosystem Ecology
Ecosystem ecology is the branch of ecology that studies how energy and matter move through the environment and the interactions of organisms and their environment. It is concerned with the cycling of nutrients and their effects on living organisms and nonliving components of the environment. By understanding the dynamic interactions between species, abiotic factors, and the larger environment, scientists can better understand how an ecosystem functions and how to best manage it for sustainable use of resources. Ecosystem ecology is essential for predicting the impacts of climate change, land use change, and other human activities on the environment. It also provides essential information for effective conservation of endangered species and management of natural resources.
