Serological Diagnosis
Serological diagnosis is a laboratory procedure which uses the measurement of antibodies in the blood to detect and identify diseases. It is a quick, reliable and cost-effective method of diagnosis which is invaluable in the clinical setting. Serology is particularly useful in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases and allergy, as well as in the detection of certain types of cancer. It is of particular value for screening for infections such as HIV and can be used to monitor the activity of diseases following treatment. In addition to its diagnostic uses, serological testing is also used for epidemiological studies and forensic investigations. It has significantly improved our ability to develop targeted treatments and help protect public health.
