Genetic Diagnosis
Genetic diagnosis is the use of medical testing to diagnose genetic conditions or to predict the risk of passing on genetic conditions to offspring. It involves testing a person’s DNA to look for changes in specific genes or genetic markers associated with certain health conditions. This knowledge can then be used to inform medical management decisions, provide predictions about the likelihood of future health outcomes, and inform genetic counseling. By understanding the genetic basis of a health condition, genetic diagnosis can lead to targeted treatments and therapies for people with a genetic condition, and allow for preventive medical care or lifestyle modifications for those at risk of developing a genetic condition. In addition, genetic testing can help identify and assess relatives of people who are at risk of passing on genetic conditions, and can inform reproductive decisions. Genetic diagnosis is a rapidly advancing field, and has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by providing key insights into treatments, patient management and disease prevention.
