Behavioural Epidemiology

Behavioural epidemiology is an interdisciplinary field that studies how behavioural and lifestyle choices affect health. It combines epidemiological methods with behavioural sciences (e.g. psychology, sociology, cognitive science, public health) to better understand and explain the prevalence, causes, and control of health-related conditions. By examining how behavioural and lifestyle choices affect health, behavioural epidemiology can help inform public health programmes and interventions, such as public health campaigns, targeted disease prevention, health policy development and healthcare delivery. The findings can also be used to better understand the impact of cultural and socio-economic factors on health behaviours and health outcomes.
