Uncompetitive Inhibitors
Uncompetitive inhibitors are a type of enzyme inhibitor that binds to the enzyme-substrate complex, preventing the formation of the enzyme-product complex. As the name suggests, these inhibitors are unable to compete with the substrate for the enzyme's active site, making them distinct from competitive inhibitors, which do compete for the enzyme's active site. Uncompetitive inhibitors are of significant interest to the medical/pharmaceutical industry, as they are used in a variety of biotechnological applications, such as the development of drugs to treat diseases. In addition, their ability to block enzyme-substrate binding makes them useful in the regulation of metabolic pathways and in the identification of enzyme targets.
