Proteolysis

Proteolysis is an essential process in all living organisms, involving the breaking down of large proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. It is essential for a wide range of functions, such as digestion, metabolic regulation, cell signaling, and the disposal of cell debris. Proteolysis can occur both inside and outside of cells, and it is carried out by enzymes called proteases. In humans, proteolysis is important for protein turnover and plays a key role in wound healing, immunity, and many other biological processes. Understanding proteolysis can provide insight into how diseases develop, how they can be treated, and how drugs can be designed to better target certain biochemical pathways.
