Noncompetitive Inhibitors
Noncompetitive inhibitors are molecules that bind to enzymes and reduce their activity, but do so without competing with the enzyme's substrate molecule for binding with the active site. This type of inhibition is useful because it can affect enzymes that exhibit a wide range of activity, which makes them valuable in the field of drug discovery and development. Noncompetitive inhibitors can be used to reduce the activity of enzymes involved in disease processes and can be used to develop drugs to target the underlying cause of a disease. Without noncompetitive inhibitors, drugs that act on enzymes could be limited in their efficacy.
