Lysosomes
Lysosomes are organelles found within many eukaryotic cells. They are composed of enzymes that are responsible for breaking down cellular components (proteins, fats and carbohydrates) as part of the process known as lysosomal catabolism. They also perform a number of other tasks, such as helping to recycle the cell's components and serving as the cell's garbage disposal by clearing out toxic materials. Their importance lies in the fact that they enable cells to efficiently process their contents and to maintain the stability of their internal environment. Lysosomes therefore play a critical role in numerous cellular processes and diseases, such as cancer, and their function is of great importance for cell health.
