Ionic Bonding
Ionic bonding occurs when atoms transfer electrons from one to another, resulting in positive and negative ions which attract each other and form a strong bond. This type of bond is significant because it gives materials their hardness, strength and rigidity. Ionic bonding is responsible for the properties of a variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers, and some of the most common molecules found in nature, such as water and carbon dioxide. Ionic bonds are also used in many medical, industrial, and research applications, including drug delivery, nanotechnology, and materials science.
