Enzyme Chemistry

Enzymes are proteins found in all living organisms that act as catalysts in biochemical reactions. They speed up chemical processes in the body, such as the breakdown of food into energy. Enzyme chemistry is the study of the structure, function and catalytic activity of enzymes. It is a key field of research for understanding biological processes, including metabolism, development, aging, disease and drug resistance. Enzyme chemistry also plays an important role in industrial processes, such as food manufacturing, pharmaceutical production and biofuel production. Understanding how enzymes work enables scientists to develop new, more efficient and more cost-effective ways to produce essential products, such as food and medicines.
