Aspartate Proteases
Aspartate proteases are a family of enzymes that catalyse the breakdown of proteins into smaller subunits. This process is called proteolysis, and these enzymes are essential in many areas of biology, including digestion, signalling, protein recycling and other metabolic processes. The aspartate protease family is particularly important in the immune response, where they are involved in the recognition and clearance of abnormal proteins. Aspartate proteases are also used in industrial processes, such as the production of pharmaceuticals, food products, and bioplastics.
