Byproduct Utilization

Byproduct utilization is the process of finding a productive use for materials that are produced as a result of a manufacturing process. Byproduct utilization is significant as it reduces the amount of waste that is sent to landfills and allows resources to be used in an optimal way. It can also reduce the cost of production and/or improve the quality of products or services. Examples of byproduct utilization include using wood chip waste as a renewable energy source, using a sugar byproduct to produce ethanol, or using a pharmaceutical byproduct to produce fertilizer. Byproduct utilization can help organizations reduce their environmental footprint while simultaneously creating economic benefits.
