Traditional Acth Stimulation Test
The Traditional ACTH Stimulation Test is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate endocrine disorders. Specifically, this test is used to measure the amount of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) that is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, an area of the brain which is involved in the body’s hormone production. This test helps to diagnose primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease), hypercortisolism (Cushing’s disease) and other endocrine-related diagnostics. During the test, a blood sample is taken and ACTH is injected. Blood ACTH levels are then re-measured after thirty minutes to determine the level of stimulation of the adrenal gland. This test helps to identify, diagnose, and treat relevant endocrine diseases.
