Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid cancer is a type of cancer that affects the thyroid gland, a small butterfly-shaped organ in the neck that produces hormones that regulate metabolism, heart rate, and blood pressure. It is the most common endocrine cancer and the eighth most common cancer in women. When diagnosed and treated in its early stages, thyroid cancer is highly treatable and has high survival rates. Symptoms of thyroid cancer may include a lump in the neck, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, and pain in the throat or neck. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy. Early detection is key to successful treatment, so it is important to be aware of the signs and seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms.
