Testes Development
Testes Development is an essential part of mammalian male reproductive development. Male testes are essential as they produce and secrete hormones that are essential for male sexual characteristics, and they produce sperm cells that are necessary for reproduction. During fetal development, testes form in the abdomen and later descend into the scrotum prior to birth. Several hormones, including testosterone and follicle stimulating hormone, are important for proper testes development, as well as the development of other reproductive organs like the prostate, seminal vesicles, and epididymis. Deficiency in production of these hormones can cause male reproductive system abnormalities and infertility. Testes development is monitored through a variety of methods, such as semen analysis, hormone assays, and imaging tests.
