Prolactin
Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays an important role in reproduction, growth, and metabolism of humans and other mammals. Prolactin is most well-known for its role in stimulating breast milk production in women who are breastfeeding, but it is also involved in many other physiological processes. In men and women, it helps to regulate metabolism, fertility, and sexual behavior. It is also necessary for the functioning of the immune system. Elevated levels of prolactin can lead to a variety of health issues, including infertility, headaches, and depression. On the other hand, low prolactin levels can lead to decreased libido and hypogonadism. Treatment options for imbalances in prolactin levels may involve lifestyle changes, medications, and supplements.
