Pancreas

The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen near the stomach and duodenum that produces hormones and enzymes for digestion. It contains two important groups of cells: endocrine cells that produce hormones such as insulin, glucagon and somatostatin; and exocrine cells that produce digestive enzymes for the breakdown of proteins, starches, and fats. The endocrine hormones play a critical role in controlling sugar levels in the blood, while the digestive enzymes help break down the food we eat. Pancreatic diseases can lead to serious health conditions such as diabetes and pancreatic cancer, making the pancreas a critical organ to maintain good health.
