Levothyroxine

Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the hormone thyroxine, produced and released by the thyroid gland. It is an important part of the body's endocrine system and helps to regulate metabolism, growth and development, and body temperature. It is used to treat hypothyroidism, which is a condition where the body does not produce enough thyroxine. Levothyroxine replaces the missing thyroxine, helping to restore hormone levels and correct the symptoms of hypothyroidism, including fatigue, weight gain, depression and joint pain. Additionally, levothyroxine can be used to treat goiters, which are enlarged thyroid glands caused by hormone imbalances. In some cases, levothyroxine can also be used to prevent or treat some types of thyroid cancer.
