Leptin
Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells that helps regulate body weight by suppressing appetite, increasing metabolism, and increasing fat burning. It is an important hormone for controlling energy balance in the body, as it reflects the amount of energy stored in the body. Leptin also plays a role in regulating immune function, bone formation, and reproduction. It has become a target for the treatment of obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases. In addition, leptin has been studied for its role in other physiological processes including the regulation of vascular tone, inflammation, and the development of atherosclerosis. Thus, leptin is an important hormone for understanding energy balance and metabolic health.
