Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid gland. It is caused by the body's immune system attacking and destroying the thyroid cells, which results in inflammation and an inability to produce enough thyroid hormones. This can lead to signs and symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, depression, and an enlarged thyroid gland. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and is the most common form of autoimmune thyroid disease. Treatment involves taking thyroid hormone replacement medication, which helps to reduce and manage the symptoms. Proper treatment can help to reduce the risk of the condition progressing and causing further complications.
