Gonads
Gonads are a pair of reproductive organs in both male and female mammals, located inside the pelvis. They are responsible for the production of hormones that are essential for the development of reproductive and sexual characteristics. In males, the gonads are called testes and in females, they are called ovaries. Testes produce sperm and ovaries produce eggs. In addition, the gonads secrete hormones like testosterone and estrogen, which control the growth and development of the reproductive organs and influence secondary sexual characteristics in males and females. The gonads play a significant role in the reproductive process, contributing to the fertilization of the egg, implantation of the embryo and development of the fetus.
