Estrogens

Estrogens are a group of hormones that regulate sexual development and reproductive processes in humans of both sexes. Estrogen is mainly known for the role it plays in female sexual characteristics and fertility. In females, it influences the development of breast tissue, and promotes the growth of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and other reproductive organs. Estrogen also helps regulate the menstrual cycle, controlling the release of an egg during ovulation. In males, estrogen helps to maintain bone density, sperm production, and sexual function. Estrogen may also play a role in heart health, healthy cholesterol levels, and mental wellbeing. The use of estrogens in various forms of hormone-replacement therapy can help manage symptoms associated with menopause and promote bone health in post-menopausal women.
