Epinephrine
Epinephrine is a hormone and neurotransmitter produced in the adrenal glands. It plays an important role in the body’s response to stress. It increases heart rate, blood pressure, and glucose levels while decreasing gastrointestinal and bladder activity. In medical settings, epinephrine is used to treat severe allergic reactions, as well as cardiac arrest, asthma attacks, and anaphylaxis. It is also used as a local anesthetic, to reduce inflammation of the nose and throat, and to stop bleeding. The versatility and effectiveness of epinephrine makes it a powerful and important component of modern medical care.
