Acromegaly
Acromegaly is a hormonal disorder resulting from an excessive production of growth hormone. The condition causes the body’s tissues and organs, particularly the hands, feet, and face, to grow too large. The overproduction of growth hormone is usually due to a benign tumor of the pituitary gland, which is located at the base of the brain. Acromegaly can lead to serious medical problems including hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Treatment includes medication, surgery, or radiation therapy to reduce the growth hormone levels. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to mitigate the long-term effects of the disorder.
