Trophoblast Development
Trophoblast development is the process by which the trophoblasts, a specific group of cells found in the early stage embryo, form and differentiate into extra-embryonic tissues. The trophoblasts play an important role in the formation of the placenta, providing nutrition and protection to the developing fetus. Additionally, trophoblast development is essential for successful implantation of the embryo, formation of the chorion, and ultimately the birth of a healthy baby. This process of trophoblast development is essential for a successful pregnancy and understanding it has helped to inform our understanding of normal and abnormal pregnancies, as well as assisted in the diagnosis and treatment of gestational disorders.
