Teratogenesis

Teratogenesis is the process by which an embryo or fetus is malformed due to either genetic or environmental factors. This malformation can be caused by genetic mutations, exposure to certain toxins, or even a combination of both. Teratogenesis has significant implications, as it can lead to major physical and mental disabilities in a newly born baby. Its proper understanding and prevention is essential in order to ensure healthy and normal pregnancies. Early detection and prevention can be done through the use of different screening and diagnostic tests. For example, genetic testing, ultrasonography, and other tests can be used to determine if the fetus is exposed to any risks for teratogenesis and allow for early intervention if needed. Thus, understanding teratogenesis is important for proper prenatal care and to ensure the best outcomes for both mother and baby.
