Fetal Umbilical Cord
Blood Fetal umbilical cord blood is a source of stem cells which can be used in medical treatments. It has been safely collected since the late 1980s and has become an important part of regenerative medicine. These stem cells have the ability to differentiate into different blood cell types and can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma, as well as immune system disorders and some genetic diseases. Fetal umbilical cord blood is a potential source of transplantable cells for future treatments, which may help reduce the need for donor tissue.
