Chorion

Chorion is a protective membrane structure that surrounds embryonic and fetal development in many species, including humans. It is composed of two layers: the amniotic sac, which provides nutrition and helps to protect the fetus, and the chorionic membrane, which serves as a barrier to prevent microbial invasion and helps to modulate the biochemical environment surrounding the fetus. It plays an important role in the development and health of the fetus, providing essential nutrients and oxygen while keeping pathogens out. The chorion also has several other important functions, such as facilitating the release of hormones to stimulate fetal growth, helping to regulate the temperature of the uterus, and serving as a source of stem cells for potential therapeutic use. As such, it is an integral part of fetal development and plays an important role in the overall health and well-being of both mother and child.
