Cervix

The cervix is the lower, narrow part of the uterus that forms a canal between the uterus and vagina. It is an important part of the female reproductive system as it is the site where cervical mucus is released during ovulation and helps sperm to reach the uterus. During pregnancy, the cervix helps to keep the fetus in the uterus until the time of birth. The cervix may also be used in a variety of tests, such as Pap smears and HPV tests, to detect abnormalities or signs of cervical cancer. Additionally, the cervix is sometimes used in certain medical procedures, such as surgical removal of fibroids, endometrial ablation, and uterine artery embolization.
