Glucans

Glucans are polysaccharides composed of many glucose molecules linked together. They are important components of plant cell walls, with beta-glucans found in abundance in some fungi, algae, and some grains, such as oats, barley, and wheat. Beta-glucans have several health benefits, as they possess strong immunity-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties. They have been linked to lower cholesterol and improved heart health, as well as helping to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes. They may even help to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. Glucans are also used in food processing and cosmetics, as they can provide texture and thicken liquids.

Pathogen is anything that can produce disease. Typically the term is used to describe an infectious agent such as a virus, bacterium, prion, a fungus, or even another micro-organism. There are several substrates including pathways where the pathogens can invade a host. Diseases caused by organisms in humans are known as pathogenic diseases.
