Extensively Drug-resistant Tuberculosis (xdr-tb)

Extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (xdr-tb) is an increasingly serious global medical issue. It is a form of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) caused by bacteria that do not respond to most anti-TB drugs. XDR-TB poses a significant challenge to TB control and treatment, as it requires more complex treatments and longer-term courses of drugs, making it difficult and costly to cure. XDR-TB has spread worldwide, with a particularly high prevalence in developing countries. In order to contain the spread of this dangerous and potentially deadly illness, it is important to take steps towards reducing the occurrence of xdr-tb, such as increasing public understanding of the disease, increasing access to effective treatments and providing appropriate patient care.
