Enterobacteriaceae

The Enterobacteriaceae family is a large group of bacteria commonly found in the environment, including soils and the intestinal tracts of animals and humans. They are a significant cause of food-borne illness and a variety of diseases. Some members of the Enterobacteriaceae family produce harmful toxins, and have been linked to antibiotic-resistant superbugs. They are also employed in bioremediation to break down pollutants in soils and water, and in biotechnology applications such as food production, pharmaceuticals, and molecular biology. Enterobacteriaceae is an important family of bacteria with a wide range of industrial, medical, and environmental applications.

Pathogen is anything that can produce disease. Typically the term is used to describe an infectious agent such as a virus, bacterium, prion, a fungus, or even another micro-organism. There are several substrates including pathways where the pathogens can invade a host. Diseases caused by organisms in humans are known as pathogenic diseases.
