Drug Metabolism
Drug metabolism is an important biological pathway that makes it possible for drugs to be broken down and absorbed by the body. It involves enzymes that change the chemical structure of a drug, allowing it to be more easily absorbed by body tissues and then excreted. Drug metabolism plays an important role in drug formulation and efficacy, as different drugs will be affected by different enzymes. Furthermore, it can affect drug interactions and side-effects, as different enzymes can affect the same drug in different ways. Understanding drug metabolism is therefore essential for the development of safe and effective drugs.
