Antimicrobial Resistance and ("nih Funded"[filter])
Antimicrobial resistance is a serious public health threat, in which bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microbes become resistant to antibiotics and other drugs used to fight infection. NIH funded research is making a major contribution to combatting this problem by working to develop new drugs and treatments, understand the mechanisms of drug resistance, and investigate ways to reduce the emergence and spread of drug-resistant microbes. Such research is essential in order to protect public health, improve patient outcomes, and preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics and anti-infective treatments.
