Acinetobacter Baumannii
Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium which is a major cause of nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections. It has a remarkable ability to survive outside the host environment and is often resistant to antibiotics. This has made the management and treatment of infection caused by Acinetobacter baumannii difficult. Despite this, Acinetobacter baumannii is a key organism in medical research due to its ability to live under a range of environmental conditions and its ability to resist antibiotics. It is being used to develop treatments that could be used to fight infection, as well as to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in antibiotic resistance.

Pathogen is anything that can produce disease. Typically the term is used to describe an infectious agent such as a virus, bacterium, prion, a fungus, or even another micro-organism. There are several substrates including pathways where the pathogens can invade a host. Diseases caused by organisms in humans are known as pathogenic diseases.
