X-linked Traits

An X-linked trait is a genetic trait that is carried on the X chromosome. These traits are inherited differently than those carried on other chromosomes, and are most often seen in males. X-linked traits can have a range of effects, from color blindness to muscular dystrophy. X-linked traits can be used to identify genetic relationships between family members, and can help to determine whether male and female family members are related. Additionally, understanding X-linked traits can help inform medical decisions, as well as enable an improved understanding of fundamental genetic processes.
