Ubiquitin-proteasome System
The Ubiquitin-proteasome system is a highly organized, dynamic and conserved intracellular protein degradation system found in all eukaryotic cells. It is a multiprotein complex that plays a major role in the regulated destruction of proteins in cells, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. It is also essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis, as it allows for the removal of misfolded and damaged proteins, which would otherwise accumulate and cause a toxic environment for the cell. The ubiquitin-proteasome system is also involved in controlling the cell cycle and in activating transcriptional programs.
