Sensory Deprivation
Sensory deprivation is a practice used in scientific research and clinical therapeutic contexts which involves reducing or eliminating sensory stimuli from the environment. By intentionally subverting the senses, a person is exposed to a state of reduced sensory stimulation and can gain greater insight into their mental and physical processes. It has been used in research to investigate the experience of altered states of consciousness, as well as in clinical contexts to help treat mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
