Nuclear Decay
Nuclear decay is the process in which an unstable nucleus transforms into a more stable form, releasing particles or energy in the process. This process is spontaneous, irreversible, and occurs naturally in all elements with unstable nuclei. Nuclear decay is essential in the creation of elements heavier than iron, and is heavily utilised in nuclear waste disposal and nuclear energy production. Through nuclear decay, radiation is formed which is a type of energy that is useful in various medical, scientific, and industrial purposes.
