Natural Antisense Transcripts
Natural Antisense Transcripts are a type of non-coding RNA molecule that is often found in paired transcripts with their regular coding RNA counterparts. They can be found in any organism, including humans. Natural antisense transcripts are believed to play critical roles in gene regulation, protein translation, and even in the formation of new genetic structures. They have the potential to modulate and regulate gene expression, affecting the rate at which proteins are produced and the overall stability of a gene. This can have important implications for human health, and development of new therapeutic treatments for genetic diseases. Furthermore, studies suggest that natural antisense transcripts can help to identify novel gene functions, as well as key novel drug targets.
