Gene Expression
Gene expression is the process by which the genetic code within our cells is used to produce proteins and other molecules that carry out specific functions in our bodies. It is a fundamental process that drives all life, and it is also important in understanding the development of diseases and how certain drugs interact with our cells to provide therapeutic benefit. In addition, gene expression is used in biotechnological applications such as gene therapy, genetic engineering and crop improvement. By understanding gene expression, scientists are able to better both diagnose and treat diseases, as well as to improve crop yields and develop new medicines.
