Yersinia Pestis

Yersinia pestis is a gram-negative bacterium that causes the plague. It is spread between animals and humans by fleas and is considered to be one of the most devastating pathogens in human history. Symptoms of the plague include fever, chills, weakness, and swollen and painful lymph nodes. Without treatment, the disease can be fatal. It can also be treated with a variety of antibiotics. Yersinia pestis is important to study because it can be used to develop treatments for other infectious diseases and to understand the development and spread of diseases. Therefore, it plays an important role in medical research and public health.
