Prostatectomy

A prostatectomy is a surgical procedure that removes all or part of the prostate gland. It is usually performed to treat prostate cancer, but can also be used to treat other prostate problems. Prostatectomy is the most successful treatment option for early stage prostate cancer and can help to prevent the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. It may also help improve symptoms related to an enlarged prostate, such as urinary problems. After the procedure, patients may need to make lifestyle changes to improve their quality of life. These may include dietary changes, exercise and stress reduction.
