Primaquine

Primaquine is an antimalarial drug used to treat and prevent Plasmodium falciparum malaria. It works by attacking the parasite at various life cycle stages and is effective against both the asexual and gametocyte forms. Primaquine is well-tolerated and has been used successfully to reduce the transmission of the disease by blocking transmission of the parasite to mosquitos. It is also used to treat and prevent relapsing vivax malaria, an infection caused by a parasite that can remain dormant in the liver for extended periods of time. Primaquine is a highly effective antimalarial drug and is used as a first-line treatment for malaria and as adjunctive therapy for other malaria prevention or treatment regimens. In addition, it has been shown to reduce the risk of developing severe malaria in those at high risk.
